Some doctors will prescribe benzo's for depression, I believe most
would try everything else before any benzos though. People under
extreme stress and anxiety or who have panic attacks may be put on
benzo's. An example would be a  lady I know who's 22 year old daughter
died, she has been prescribed  a benzo ever since then, mostly because
of strong anxiety, and being unable to sleep, along with being deeply
depressed.
