By the way, by your inclusion of the State Department letter of September
24, 1964, and the calendar for October 1959, you seem to be under the
misapprehension that the chain of events somehow required Oswald to have
visited the Soviet Consulate in Helsinki on the day of his arrival in that
city, Saturday, October 10, 1959.
Not so.
The fact is, the day Oswald first visited the Soviet Consulate in Helsinki
to apply for his tourist visa is unknown; we know only the day his tourist
visa was issued: Wednesday, October 14. The Warren Commission was trying
to narrow down the date of his first visit to the consulate. By learning
that the consulate probably closed at noon on Saturday, October 10, 1959,
the WC concluded that Oswald probably first visited the consulate on the
first business day after his arrival: Monday, October 12.
