I haven't read the book so I can't comment on it. All I know from
many years of living is that both good and bad things happen in life
and sugarcoating problems is a recipe for disaster in trying to deal
with reality (with or without astrology). That's my opinion and I'm
sticking to it. ;-)

I don't use solar returns. For the most part I try to stick with the
natal charts and transits. KISS works best for me although other
astrologers' mileage varies greatly.
