~~~AllisonWonderland~~~:
Doozie the big White cat died yesterday at the vet's clinic.
She had been fighting a losing battle with Hemobartenella Felis for some
time, and yesterday morning, she finally succumbed to the disease.
She was in no distress when she died, in fact she was purring a quiet
little
purr, and just went to sleep.
She was a wonderful cat, and was never sickly from the H/F, which is a
parasite that attaches itself to the red blood cells, and the immune
system
destroys the red blood cells in an effort to rid the body of the parasite,
which results in anemia.
It is treated with Doxycycline, but there is actually no cure for the
disease.
It is passed from the mother to her kittens. Doozie's mother, TraLaLa has
it
also, but is, so far, successfully resisting its effects as did Doozie for
till yesterday. She was nearly six years old.
The disease kills quickly and painlessly once the cats body can no longer
sustain the battle.
Doozie was fine the morning before, with a good appetite. She enjoyed a
good
bru****ng, petting, and then it was out to the KittyKastle to spend her day
dozing on the ledges, and watching the day go by.
When I let her in for breakfast yesterday at 7:00 a.m., she had the
staggers.
I immediately knew the disease had finally caught up with her.
I had her to the vet clinic at 9:00 a.m.
He gave her a steroid shot, some vitamin B complex, and a dose of
Doxycycline, but she was just tired of fighting, and seemed to just give
up.
She was happy for it to finally be over.
She was buried this morning North of the big China Berry Tree between 8:00
and 8:20.
this morning.
I will miss her. I am saddened. Doozie was a SUPER WonderCat.
