The reason for the recent absence of Raymond Karczewski from Usenet is
that he was committed to Salem State Hospital on a mental hygeine
warrant. The original commitment papers were drawn up on April 22 and
he was taken into custody at approximately 11:00 AM on April 23
following a complaint by a family member. The warrant specificed an
initial observation period of 72 hours with psychiatric
recommendations to be made by hospital staff.
It seems that Raymond was down at the Blue Moon Cafe on the 21st
harassing customers, one of who recognized Raymond and contacted the
family member. Apparently it isn't against the law to tell people you
are Jesus Christ and demand they tithe to you, perhaps the Andy
Griffith styled deputies in JoCo don't know about panhandling laws or
possibly they are tired of arresting Raymond and having him urinate
himself in their cruisers.
I am certain that if Raymond is off his medication, he will remain in
custody for a period of time to be determined.
