KP2008JUN06 SWINGTOWN

KP2008JUN06 SWINGTOWN

I saw the premiere of Swingtown
on CBS last nite. It's the first
intelligent discussion of ***uality
I've ever seen on public tv.

I was completely delighted.
It kept surprising me!
I thought about it for hours.

The closest thing to it I've ever seen is the
famous nina-hartley-era "Taboo" **** series,
which took an intelligent and loving look at
some emotions involved in ***** relation****ps.
Sure, it was commercial ****, and biased to the
fun side ... but it was much more than that.

But that was ****, and this is prime time tv!
So the *** is implied, rather than depicted.
But the critical issues are the feelings and
motivations! Everybody knows the mechanics.

Swingtown has the delightful innocence of Ally McBeal,
the slick plot and production of CSI or 24, a wonderful
sound track of timely hits, and the rude, in-your-face-
-but-good-natured, ironic honesty of the Simpsons.

It greatly enhances understanding.
I love it. I hexpect it will
be a huge commercial success.
It makes "*** and the City" look
like a Jack-In-The-Box commercial.

Unlike CSI and 24, which celebrate hatred
and police-state fascism, Swingtown exudes
ironic intellegence, and love for ALL it's
characters, even the frightened and up-tight.
.... Even dressed in gay 70's disco costumes!

As a frustrated, neurotic, mostly-wanna-be-
swinger living in Chicago at the time depicted,
and later, a much happier LA swinger, I've
lived some of the roles depicted, happy and sad.

Many of the subtle nuances are captured so well!
I think it's a major step forward in both education
and the public discussion of ***uality. It deals
with particular people, not abstract generalities.

As a swinger, I feel it treats us kindly and honestly.
That's a HUGE BREAKTHROUGH in public perception.

I read a few reviews that ragged on shallow characters.
I didn't feel that at all. The cast of characters is
large, and the relation****p web is ripe for so much!
They've been introduced. I bet development will be fun!
I think we might see stunning Ally McBeal slurprises.

I'm amazed and gratified to see something
this honest and refre****ng from Hollywood!
On prime time tv ... not local cable!

Maybe the much hyped New Age of ***ual and
emotional freedom is finally arriving?
When Swingtown goes heXXX-rated on
prime time tv, and Taboo's replay on
the History of **** Channel,
we'll know it's here now!

Happy Tails to you,
until we meet again!
