In the long run it won't matter.  Sure, in the short term, the US 
government is turning (or has turned into) a fascist state, but when 
peak oil hits really hard, probably in the 2012 to 2015 time frame, the 
US government will be lucky to keep the lights on, much less control 
everybody.    The future is going to be more like _Mad Max_ rather than 
_1984_.
