There really isn't anything at the Nut Tree of interest. Just a
shopping mall. Unfortunately while I had lunch, the Groomies returned
to the mother bird, so I didn't get to see who dropped them off.
This is not their first time to the Nut Tree, but I'd say the trips
are very infrequent. [Maybe two years apart.] They also use the
air****t in Sonoma (KSTS). I've never managed to catch them there.
Often they don't bother to file IFR at all, so they are off the books.
When they do file IFR, it is a scheme to get in the departure queue.
If they can take off VFR before the IFR time, they just cancel the IFR
request.
There is another scheme used where they take off IFR and change to VFR
in mid-route. I don't know the rules exactly, but they need to drop
altitude to go VFR. Also, when I've seen this done, it is usually over
an air****t. On computer tracking, the flight either times out or shows
as being diverted.
