I've never heard of a repeater site anywhere around the base
or Rachel. I'm not sure I understand "not repeating". Is it
no longer in service? I would guess it's likely a good site
for any kind of comms.

I rarely call CQ. I listen on the calling freq's and up/down
a couple of clicks. Start answering a few stations or calling
a few stations you can hear, let 'em know you're weak remote
and the hits will start pouring in.

40m was up and down yesterday, likewise 20.
But my little Yaesu 857 all band/mode and the
ATAS antenna (auto tune srewdriver) was getting
out on 100w from Phoenix to most parts of the
continental US. That antenna is about a 5' whip,
mounted on my van roof (or a tin shed roof
when I'm backyard remote).
