well arguably jewelry actually looks like something.  The best
argument I have ever heard for neckties having some asthetic value is
that they are kind of upside-down phallic symbols, sort of, but I am
not sure I buy that.

In fact it's interesting that white men, supposedly the most logical
of all men, have an aversion to jewelry of all kinds, although it
looks good and attracts women.  Hetero***ual guys started wearing
earrings again in my lifetime and it was mindboggling to many other
hetero***ual guys.  I have never quite understood why, to highly
logical hetero***ual white guys, most things that guys do to attract
women are assumed to be signs of homo***uality.  Such as practicing
diligent hygiene, dressing well, jewelry, etc.  But don't get me wrong
I have always been grateful for the relative lack of competition
there.
