I believe that you are mistaken.
"lavarand" (trademark of SGI) used LAVA LITE brand motion lamps.
"LavaRnd" (trademark of Landon Curt Noll and Simon Cooper) uses
lens-capped digital cameras.
They are not the same project, and - in my opinion, the LavaRnd
people are being somewhat deceptive with their choice of name and
their lava-themed webpages.
