I have had good luck with the following method:

[1] Put the globe in an environmnt where the lava just barely 
    melts but     there is no convection / lava movement.
    Even heat all around, like an oven, not heat at the bottom.

[2] Leave it alone for a couple of weeks.


I check this group about once a month, more often if there have
been recent posts.
