To all those person that organize, run, or participate in SF
conventions, or hope to do so some day:
Please come visit and contribute to The Con Runner's Wiki at
www.ConRunner.net. This site is set up to provide a live and
(increasingly) accurate on-line reference for how to run an SF
Convention. Old hands can stop by and describe how they have done
things, Newbies can stop by and get tips on what to do next. Everybody
learns from each other and everybody benefits.
I anticipate that some folks will have some differences of opinion over
"what is the one right way to" ... skin a cat, for example. The
philosophy of the site is that there is no one right way, but there may
be plenty of reasons NOT to do something. So please, come and share the
wealth of why your way works and why. Other will see that and learn
from your good example (or cautionary tale).
At this time, what you will see is a skeleton Con Organization on a site
that has been heavily "borrowed" from Wikipedia. If you like working
with the WikiMedia markup software, you will love ConRunner.net. There
are plenty of articles that need to be added to, and plenty more that
ought to be added.
Bottom line, there have been a lot of How To projects in Fandom. We
finally have a good way to get lots of knowledgeable people working on a
document that can be easily updated and distributed to others. We are
facing a fracturing like there has never been before, with the younger
folks coming into fandom, and going off in different directions,
repeating old mistakes and finding new ones while the old folks shake
their heads. Now is the time to pull the knowledge base together and
help all of us have a better Con experience. Please come help.
Thanks
Bill Taylor,
your ConRunnerAdmin
