That would be me.  Well, I didn't hate it.  The dialogue was still
recognizable as Whedon, but the characters seemed poorly developed and
the milieu, the Western elements and the Chinese part, inexplicable and
disjointed.  Finally, when the show was cancelled and they aired the
pilot, I got it.  The rest of what I had seen (missing some and taping
nothing, alas) all fell into place and made sense.  That's probably why
it was supposed to be the pilot and not the finale...duh!
