Although I am strongly biased, let me say that Arisia is well worth the
trip way up to Boston, even in the middle of the winter. It's a hell
of a lot smaller than DragonCon, but for the most part that's a good
thing since you have actual contact with the guests as a result.

Oh yes, and Arisia has the only film program left at a con that is
still running full 35mm film projection. I think it looks stunning,
but then I'm running it. Films this year will include a print of
The Tunnel, a 1936 film about building a London-New York tunnel, a
bunch of animated TV shows that have sat in vaults for decades, the
rather avant-garde "Flaming Ears," and I don't know what else.

Worldcon in LA is definitely worth attending if you have any interest
at all in written SF. It's expensive and far away, but I'd judge that
in spite of having a tenth the member****p of Dragoncon, it probably
has actually more program items.

Balticon and Philcon are somewhat closer to you, and also very much
worth attending. More actual programming and less of a party atmosphere
than DragonCon for the most part, for better or worse.
