I just finished reading "Last Of The Amazons", by Steven Pressfield. He's
also the author of "Gates Of Fire", which became the movie "300". "Last
Of
The Amazons" is a poignant yet thought-provoking of an alternative
retelling
of the love affair between Theseus, King Of Athens, and Antiope, Queen of
the Themiscryan Amazons and then the subsequent invasion of Athens by the
Amazons and their allies to retrieve their queen. This book describes how
the Amazons evolved, how they lived and fought, and had some of the most
descriptive and bloody battle scenes I've ever read. Truly, a fascinating
read by an aclaimed author. Several great plot twists and a surprise
ending
and not what you've read in Bulfinch's. For a review of his book, see
