No, the film 300 is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel "300" which came
out
the same year as Pressfield's "Gates of Fire"
The director had _planned_ a film based on Gates of Fire, but when he saw
Miller's Graphic novel he bought the rights to it. The film "300 is a shot
for
shot adaptation of the graphic novel.
It is certainly possible that both were inspired by the 1962 film "The 300
Spartans" which Miller admits influenced him greatly, but "Gates of Fire
did
_not_ "become the movie 300"
