Happy Holidays everyone~
As some of you know, I live in the deepest part of the south. In fact, if
you look closely at a map, I think you can see my house sparkling brightly
near the rhinestone encrusted buckle of the bible belt. My husband and I
moved here from Austin, Texas when the tech industry fell apart because
his
family lives here and he KNEW he could get a great job here. It turns out
that he did get a great job here, and his family is absolutely wonderful.
The only real problem here that we have to deal with is the fact that
religion is everywhere here. Specifically, Southern Baptists.
My husbands parents are great, but they are devoutly religious, and I am
not. It will be a few more years before we pay off the house(and then we
intend to move asap), and I am worried about my son being confused by the
difference between his grandparents and his parents. My husband hasn't
told
his parents that he is an atheist because it would crush them, and they'd
think that they had failed as parents, and after meeting them I think he
has
done the right thing. Also, every aspect of life here is effected by
church
affiliations. If word got out that I was practicing, my husband could
actually lose his job.
But what to do about Miles?
How do other goth parents deal with this issue? (Sorry for excluding you
before, gothdads! Yay for Father's Rights!!)
TIA,
H.
