I very much am providing my girls with a normal, very happy in fact,
childhood, thank you. I don't care whether they'll choose to be goth or
not
when they grow up. They can do whatever they want with their looks, it's
their choice. Same for me, as much as possible.

Why? it's just another subculture. Like the, say, Rastafarian one. Or
Jewish, or any other. How about arranged marriages within the Indian
communities in the West? They don't necessarily 'fit within the limits of
the norm of my society'. Yet they exist as part of a 'culture within
another
culture' (subculture)

Yes, absolutely. But you're saying it in a way that seems to link all that
filth you list with goth. Hopefully it's just me reading it the wrong way.

Indeed. And I am a loving, doting, attentive wife and mother if I may say
so
myself. I've happily sacrificed my own life (work, going out, spending
money
on myself, socializing) in favour of a family life where sometimes my
work,
as 99% of housewives would say, goes unappreciated. And you know what? I
love it. Seeing my girls growing and progressing as happily and healthily
as
they do fills me with joy.

Bollocks! (Whoa, pardon my French). Most of us? What on earth are you
talking about! Yes I do come from a single parent 'family' (using the term
loosely) and my mum was a possessive, authoritative cow with me, but I
didn't start dressing in black and lace because of that. I may appear
simple
here, but I just *like* that style. It feels comfortable, it feels 'me'.
Adidas and Gucci don't; Camden Town style does. As simple as that. You may
say that teenagers from troubled backgrounds start choosing provocative
and
subversive clothing styles as a scream for help and attention; but when
you're talking to a 31 y.o. woman, I think, if it was just a 'phase', that
it would have terminated at least 6 years ago. I've met loads of Goths
(the
majority in fact) from average families. Walk into any counselling place
or
Soc. Security office and see how many Goths you can spot. Hardly any, I
bet.
