Ah, then perhaps Debian is for you. They're considered "the purists'
purists". They're sort of "the OpenBSD of Linux". You will definitely
like their "apt-get" package acquisition and installation feature. It
takes a little getting used-to, but once you catch on, it's "da bomb".
And Debian puts stuff generally where you'd expect it to be found.
the only real hassle is that you have to learn the bare bones of `vi`
and even `emacs` to get it properly set up enough to effectively use apt
and apt-get.
