What you fail to realize is that this newsgroup is not moderated. The
FAQ is of no im****tance. If YOU found Giger's post as offensive, then
you should have ignored it and/or killfiled him/her.

I don't see it as promoting a website. Giger was asking for help to add
content to a gothic website. The Key word being "gothic". Also, Giger
was suggesting that her website is so cool, that when he/she was asking
for help, he/she did not offer any monetary compensation, which makes
him/her pretentious. Certainly on-topic I would think.
Also, let's say Giger was promoting a gothic website. Do you have any
suggestions on how to promote it online without offending you?

Just to you. Just ignore it. By being an asshole, you drew more
attention to this issue. If you notice, her posts on other newsgroups
were not met with such ignorance and have since faded away.
