An alternative for forcing IE to behave more like a standards
compliant browser is the "IE7" style sheet at
http://dean.edwards.name/IE7/.

Basically, you include that in your HTML, and IE magically starts to
behave. The only caveat is that there's a "jitter" in IE where
IE loads up the page with its own behaviour, then changes to the
correct behaviour. The slower the page is to load, the more
pronounced the effect is.

However, it's a great way to get things to work in IE without spending
much time on it, especially if you're willing to say "well, that
jitter is annoying - stop using IE, and it goes away!"
