[C15 Vote] Meta post

I just went in and deleted a bunch of drafts from summer of 2007.
Jesus, I suck.

Anyway, so it's spring, and that means the next Convergence vote will
need to be sorted out soon.

There was a lot of discussion after the last one, and I was very happy
to find out that people still really do care about the event and the
process by which the location is selection. Everybody (mostly) seemed
to agree that the selection process needs to be modified and updated.
What wasn't really discussed was proposals on how this is best done.

I think it's fair to say that there is a Convergence "community" which
has grown up over the years, and which has a sizable overlap with, but
is not limited to the alt.gothic "community". I personally would like
to see some system in place that recognizes that the people who go to
Convergence year after year are the ones who sup****t it and who should
have the deciding vote in how it's run and where it's held.[1]

Anyway. 

Aspects of the vote that need to be addressed.

1. The mail-in registration. Originally intended to allow people from
the newsgroup who had never been to a Convergence a vote. Final
result; Voter registraion drives by bidding committees. 

2. Committees. Started off as people we know, now we're getting
professional promoters. Do we restrict who can put in a bid? If so
what restrictions make sense?

3. Voters. Who can vote? Do we maintain the current database system
and modify how people get added? Do we ditch the database and find
some other system? Say, go back to public voting on the newsgroup?
Have the C*b*l just select the winner?

4. The C*b*l itself. More transparency? Elected? Fixed terms? Only
previous C* organizers? Do you even care, as long as they get the job
done?

5. Anything else you care about? 

I'm going to throw my opinions out there, but I'll do it in a seperate
post so I'm clear that I'm just talking my personal opinons as a
Convergence attendee.
