There are always those driven more by self righteousness than truth.
There were other power elites that needed to get the message.
And the message was, that not only was the bunker in which the Japanese
Junta not deep enuf for a nuke, but nobody else had one either. You seem
to forget that Hitler was perfectly willing to let Germans die for
several more months of warfare while he hid his ass in the bunker.
Truman, for one, knew that. And the point after the second nuke was,
that from that moment on, no power elite again would ever be able to
start a war thinking that the grunts get to die first. The reason we had
a cold war and not a hot one, was that the power elites on both sides
realized, after the demonstration in Japan, that they would get to die
first. not you or me.
