I think it's not so much that there are so many
but that the people who are anti-barefoot are
very strange and like to post signs, etc..

As it turns out, in my experience,
in the States being barefoot is not really
all too popular. Fear however appears to be
somewhat rampant. Fear of being sued, fear of
losing civil rights, fear of fear. Americans,
so-called, might not be the most repressed country
in the world, but they are, as a group, a very
strange lot, all things considered, imo.
