For some reason my experiences are the opposite.
When I was leaving Oahu all my gear was packed.
I was told that I couldn't board the aircraft
barefoot. Fortunately I was able to run back 
and catch my buddies who were still there. Come to
think of it, I guess they must have given me a
ride to the air****t. At any rate, I asked Smouse,
pretty much told him, to give me his socks, which
he did. Can't remember why we called him Smouse.
Maybe that was his name. As I recall the
stewardess who told me I couldn't board barefoot
was nowhere to be found when I got back.
