My wheels are still turning. I go to work, I come home, try to sleep
(sometimes succeed), sit here at the computer and often let my fingers
wander the keyboard. I've been working on what might try to be a book
eventually, a sci-fi thing I found in some notes I had in a notebook
that I decided to expand on. Musically I've developed a strange
fascination with cellos. Been listening to Apocalyptica a lot, avoiding
their Metallica covers though in favor of their original works, and
trying my hand at composing quartets utilizing two guitars and two
b*****.
I don't remember if I ever mentioned that I am now an uncle. If not, my
sister had a little girl in September of '02, six weeks premature, but
everyone came through just fine. Little Katie is now a little fireball,
almost unstoppable when she isn't asleep. She has an interesting
reaction to almost any music she hears.
My baldness continues, and in all honesty I think it always will. I've
become rather obsessed with being bald, to the point that I've been
working on tweezing out all the hair on my head. I've almost completed
doing the whole thing the first time, with a strip of only an inch or
two across on the back left to go. Evereything else has been tweezed
and retweezed a number of times, and thankfully it gets much easier
after the first time through. If I could afford it, I'd get laser
treatments, but that is a rather expensive option. I even removed my
eyebrows once last summer, which was an interesting experience. It gave
me a rather fierce look without even trying to look that way. Even
though the reactions from coworkers and such was even more extreme than
first seeing me without hair, I think I may return to the browless look,
this time in a more gradual way by pulling out ten hairs a day from both
sides.
I now strive to be as isolated from other people as possible outside of
work. It's not necessarily a negative, fear-driven thing, but rather if
I had the choice of solitude or social mingling, I'll choose solitude.
I've been exploring self hypnosis a bit more, and have been meditating
more and more lately. Further experiments in thought projection are
ongoing, I have heard there is a method where one can meditate with a
certain way of breathing for ten minutes or so, and the effect is as if
I'd had eight to ten hours of good solid sleep. If I could master
that...that would free up tons of time for me to do all sorts of things.
Other than that, it's pretty much the usual around here on the east
coast of Iowa. Summer is definitely here, tropical for a few days,
stormy as hell (my personal favorite) for a day or two, cool for a
couple of days and then tropical again. And I must say that the storms
of this summer so far have been especially enjoyable for me. The
highlight was when, as I sat here watching radars and tracking storms, I
heard a cat just outside my window. The poor thing was soaked and
desperately wanted to get out of the rain, so I brought him in, dried
him off and gave him what was left of my meal. Unfortunately I couldn't
keep him, and he had no collar or tags, so I wasn't able to figure out
where he came from, so the next day I took him to a shelter where I knew
he wouldn't be put down after a week or so. I'm sure he found himself
in a good home eventually.
My palavering must be getting boring by now. I may palaver more later.
The growing brightness in my windows tell me it is now time to go to the
other room (which I've covered the windows to keep out the light as much
as possible) and create as much darkness as I can muster.
