SAVANNAH -- John Peter Novak, 77, of Bluffton, a retired Marine Corps
captain, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, in Hospice Savannah.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory The Great
Catholic Church, Bluffton, with burial at 2 p.m. at Beaufort National
Cemetery.
Mr. Novak was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Millville, N.J., a son of the
late Peter Novak and Helen Yoblonski Novak.
He served two tours in Vietnam and represented the Marines at the
release of prisoners of war at the end of hostilities. He was the
recipient of the Combat Action Ribbon, China service Campaign Medal,
World War II Victory Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with silver star
designating five campaigns and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.
He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church and moved to
Bluffton in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Rita E. Novak, of Bluffton; a son, David
P. Novak of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Tracy Trunkle of
Charleston; a sister, Joanne Althouse of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and four
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Ann Novak.

St., Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203-1977.
