I Hate David Copperfield (Trick Review)

by mitchell_leary <mitchell_leary@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 8, 2008 at 12:21 AM

First off, I don't hate David Copperfield. "I Hate David Copperfield"
is the name of a trick in DVD format that I thought I'd review.
Years ago L&L Publi****ng put out a little book titled LAKE TAHOE CARD
MAGIC by Louis Falanga. It was an outstanding book of card tricks, it
may still be in print.

Anyway, one of the tricks in the booklet was titled CLOSE-UP
ILLUSION. I've gotten more requests to "Show my friend that trick you
showed me the other day" out of this trick than any I think I've ever
done. Cards seem to melt through each other in a most magical manner.

To me CLOSE-UP ILLUSION is the prize effect of that book. It's the
kind of trick you buy 20 magic books to find, it's that powerful.
It messes with people's heads and will knock drunks right off their
bar stools.

This new trick, I Hate David Copperfield is more of an elaboration of
Close-Up Illusion.

It uses the exact same gimmick, but in a fresh new way that makes it a
visual stunner.

The author of this DVD, Geoff Williams, has incor****ated a Linking
Ring move into the sequence which makes all the difference in the
world. Its one of those genius moves that becomes very apparent once
you see the trick.

For those not familiar with Close-Up Illusion or this one, the basic
effect is this: 3 cards are involved. I use two blue backers and one
red backer. The cards are arranged blue, blue, red. The red card
always starts as the lowermost card. By slowly fanning the cards the
red card melts through a blue card and ends up in between the two blue
cards.

The Geoff Williams move has you rub the red card against the blue ones
(from below) and it VISUALLY penetrates the lowermost blue card and
ends up between the two blue cards. At any time you can fairly show
all three cards, they won't see the gaff, EVER!!!

The trick instantly resets and there is no "get-ready" making it ideal
for walk around magicians. But be warned of it's power. This is the
kind of trick that can create a cult following. You'll have people
following you around just to watch you perform it for the next group
of spectators.

The DVD is only $20. Use your own cards. You can make the secret
gimmick in less than 15 seconds and rake in the big bucks in tips.

Great trick!
