Wondered if anyone knew the name of this trick (seen it in a few
different forms)
effect: 6 envelopes on the floor. 6 participants. Magi has a bowl
containing identical white balls. Each participant takes a ball. They
are asked to think of a number between 1 and 49 and to write it on the
ball. Next they're told to sort themselves into numeric order and to
stand on the appropriate envelope. The magi reads their mind - telling
each the number that they've written and why (eg, your old house
number...). Not surprisingley each is pretty impressed. He then asks
them to hold up the envelope they've been standing on - it correctly
identifies their name. He then asks each to open their ball. Inside
one is a four leaf clover. All are asked to look in their envelopes.
All contain the word "Lose" except for the guy holding the ball
containing the clover. Finally the magi asks the participants to hold
their white balls in front of them, showing their number. He then
opens a box and inside there's a lottery ticket for the next week's
draw - printed with the numbers that they selected. The guy with the
clover wins the ticket.....
As I say I have seen a couple of variations of this trick and wondered
if it has a name?
