Cheering Is Bad Form

by Ray Haddad <rhaddad@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jan 23, 2008 at 01:55 PM

Corey White's recent troubles illustrate two things to me. I'm not
going to post the URLs to the news story or to his recent jail
record. That's already been done.

The first, most obvious thing about Corey that he is very annoying.
I won't deny that. But he is one of the most unfortunate of
creatures on this earth. He's a human being who has something
seriously wrong in the one place that makes it impossible for him to
realize that something is wrong. He's got obvious mental health
issues which have manifest themselves here frequently. Since the
source of is trouble is also the part of each of us that decides if
we are all right or not, that flaw keeps him in the dark about his
own health and creates artificial demons which he feels he must
fight to be well. We've all seen his posts describing what he truly
believes has been done to him.

Second, I see the worst in some people being put forward here. Corey
is a sick human being who is now going to get the help he needs. In
spite of his tragic confrontation with police and arrest, this will
force the authorities to move him into real help and that's got to
be a good thing. Cheering for his misfortune is bad form. It's akin
to pointing at the kid with Cerebral Palsy on crutches struggling to
walk across his front yard and laughing.

I suggest that you watch this with interest if you like but refrain
from making a terrible fool of yourself by cheering over his current
situation. Discuss it with all the respect you'd like to get
yourself. In other word, be adults.
