vii om Hail Satan!
# I cannot seperate the symbolism from accual in anything that has to
# do with The great work ( Or anything published by the A.'. A.'.
# O.T.O. etc.etc. )
difficult, agreed. I'll try to help you out here. the Great Work
transcends all lineages, all genres, all motifs, all symbolism,
and all actualities. one's participation in or coordination of
said Work will not necessarily have anything to do with overt
"Thelemic" bodies or social orgs/lineages like the OTO/AA.
# ...in Aleister Crowleys "Magick in Theory And Practice"
probably "Book Four", of which that constitutes Part Three.
you're probably talking about Part One and Part Two (his
inversion of Yoga and his elaboration on Ceremonialism).
# I Think the "Temple" "circle" "wand" and the like are just
# Symbolism not accuall tangible things.
varying levels of tangibleness obtain across the spectrum of
ceremonial magic. the most grandiose and permeating orgia
will of course require exquisite detail in material tool for
the purpose of extending to all realms the effect of the rite.
supplementing the work, the magician's will fills in where any
symbolism and objectification is left out.
# But then again it could mean tangible things that represent or
# symbolise abstract things etc.etc.
if you're just trying to figure out what *Crowley* means,
then this is a far less im****tant query, and I pass.
# Same goes for many rituals i have read and "self
# initiation" rituals and another example is demons
# (not being accual)etc.etc.
the problem with "actualness" is that it effectively eliminates
the potential for transformation, transmutation, and any other
process requiring the interaction with whatever level of 'the
actual' might obtain. in fact, it is more conducive to success
to discern not so much the 'actuality' by the 'ontological
condition' of any particular catalyst. this is *especially*
true of 'demons', whose character is disputed and contentious.
there are some daring mages who maintain that they are
capable of engaging rites while reading them and being
'initiated' in at least style if not power within the
temple of the mind. this is another method of avoiding
social ceremonialism and the concretization of rituals,
and yet it has the capacity to be a faux skill which
allows the ceremonialist to escape the fetters that are
typically included (or hidden) within initiation rites.
where demons are concerned, their 'actuality' sometimes
is informed by the MAGE's allegiances, religiously. if
one comes from dualistic religious background and
training, for example, spirits seem far more likely to
be predisposed to antagonism and caustic character --
it is my contention that this is due to their primarily
ANARCHIST tendency, the desires for a hierarchy on the
part of the mage and hir god being the catalyzing force
setting into motion the need for the mage's protections.
