Poseidon/Donar (PIE gods series post #1)

by "Sean Bam." <seanbam2@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 4, 2007 at 03:37 PM

Any help from you[s] &/or questions to me, about any of my/yours/
other's deity names would be most welcome.
I will eventually add cognates in other claimed semi-relatives of
Aryan/Indo-European (such as Aztec, Maori, Sumerian, etc) as a 2nd
post/part for each entry of root proto-deity cognates.
All "cognates" are tentative/provisional (pioneer/theory) only.
The given language/culture/people names here are language families/
branches.
More than one given "cognate" in any one language family means "&/
or" (both/either).
Note, not only do letters/sounds/syllables/roots interchange (eg d/r),
but also attributes/meanings interchange (analogy, eg Storms at Sea).
The words in quote-/speech-marks are not meanings/definitions but
attributes (keywords from myth dictionary/encyclopedia descriptions/
details/info).

Ran 'storm, sea, drowned sailors', Donar 'storm, thunder' -Germanic;
Eil Don 'sea, fish, wave, flood', Tangie 'water-spirit, seaweed, sea-
horse', Tamesis 'river' -Celtic;
Poseidon 'sea' -Greece;
Tonans/Totans 'thunderer' -Italy;
Danu 'waters of heaven', Drona 'water pot, weapons'-India;
Tomor 'winds' -Albania;
Bangputys 'sea, blows, waves' -Baltic;
Dan(y)a 'water', Stoymir 'knight, mount'-Slavic;
