First and foremost, a warning. If you are only marginally interested in
the
Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn; if Ceremonial (Ritual) Magic is
strictly
theoretical in your way of thinking; if you feel that "magic" books should
be filled with spells, rituals and correspondence charts, save your money
-
this book is NOT for you.
This book is a supplement to the Golden Dawn system of magic. It consists
of the Flying Rolls, most of which have never before been published.
These
were side lectures dealing with various aspects of magical-alchemical
tradition. As such, unless you are working the Golden Dawn system of
magic,
or wish to do so, this book will hold minimal interest for you. That is
not
to say that it is not valuable. A great deal of Ceremonial/Ritual magic
which is performed today finds its inspiration in the techniques developed
by the Golden Dawn and its offshoots. These do***ents are of interest
both
from a historical perspective and from a magical perspective
However, since many of the Flying Rolls printed in this volume (not all of
them are - some few have been previously printed and even fewer have
vanished without a trace) are elaborations of, and refer to, lectures
which
form the bulk of the specific teachings of the Golden Dawn and its derived
offshoots., they will be of greatest interest and value to those with
access
to these lectures.
