The Pretending tribe is "the arcane brotherhood of misfit souls brought
together for the sole purpose of bringing fun, magic and high adventure to
a
world that seems spiritually and physically too cold to live in." Are
these
true goals or only the imaginings of children?
I found it a bit difficult to get into this story, and I'm not sure why
that
was. It may be that it seems more disjointed than most fantasies. This
is
a fantasy aimed at younger readers, but it seems as though it may be a
little too random even for them.
Although it was an enjoyable book, I really didn't feel a connection to
it.
It was too centered on thoughts, motivations and descriptions and did not,
in my opinion, contain enough "action" to appeal to today's average
reader.
In many ways it reminded me of novels written during the Victorian era.
That is not necessarily a bad thing, in and of itself, but for a
generation
of readers who grew up n video games and books in the Harry Potter-style;
this is liable to be less appealing.
I am sorry to say that, unlike most of the books I have read from this
publisher, I really can't give this book a hearty recommendation. It will
appeal to a certain segment of the reading public, but I am afraid that it
will not be a large segment.
Having said that, I will also say that it was well written from a
technical
standpoint. I simply feel that it lacks a general appeal
