MUSIC REVIEW - Princess of Flowers CD

by "Michael Gleason" <gleason.mike@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 15, 2008 at 02:50 PM

Princess of Flowers CD by Margaret Davis © 1998 (available from
www.flowinglass.com) $17.50

Ms. Davis provides vocals and harp accompaniment (among other things) on
CDs
by Avalon Rising and Broceliande. I was looking forward to this disc
which
showcases her talents and contributions. She did all the arrangements,
except for "Rosebud in June" and she shows a sure, light touch.

Whether or not you understand all the lyrics (there are French and Middle
English as well as modern English), you will find yourself swept along by
Ms. Davis' enchanting voice and the musical accompaniment.

Will this album appeal to everyone? No, it won't even appeal to all
Pagans.
But for those of us who came to adulthood at a time when musical
story-telling was still enjoyed (or admired, in my case) her efforts will
be
appreciated.

As I listened I was gently trans****ted to a timeless place. I mean that
sincerely. I lost track of the passage of time and I couldn't tell you
how
much time passed. Some of the songs seemed to be over in only a few
moments
and some stretched into a languid pacing. It didn't matter. Each song
seemed to be exactly right.

My one concern whenever I encounter such an album is that it will end up
being a one-shot affair. In Ms. Davis' case I know we will continue to
hear
from her via Avalon Rising and Broceliande, but I sincerely hope she
brings
out more work in this vein, as it displays her artistry to great
advantage.

I recommend this CD without reservation.

Flowinglass Music (www.flowinglass.com) is the independent distributor for

this album, as well as those featuring Avalon Rising and Broceliande.
Because they are independent (and Pagan to boot) they need all the sup****t

they can get. Visit their website. Buy their music so that we may be
sure
our interests will continue to be served. There isn't much likelihood
that
a major distributor will pay much attention to our wants and desires, so
let's
sup****t those individuals and groups who do.
