They also do not deny their employees medical benefits. Possibly, I
understand this because of my career in medical health insurance and
working many jobs in retail. Even the Pharmacy Tech jobs were through
the retail stores and went by the same standards.

There is a parttime/full time standard and labor law rulings. Under 32
hours I believe is considered part time. Medical benefits are
generally offered and deducted accordingly. Full time employees
usually are office staff, manager positions and medical benefits are
handled differently.

I have checkd into Wal-mart benefits because my kids apply for retail.
They offer more then say "Blockbuster" or many retail outlets that I
myself have done hours at when I needed to work around their school
hours. Possibly "BB" has come up in the world that was 15 years ago
but, this type of hiring most at part time level is standard in
retail.

Another point is that my ex is and was in heavy construction
companies. Huge companies that do the bridges, sidewalks and housing
developements.  Full time and through the over 10 years together very
few offered any type of medical benefits. More then not we had to take
out individual plans or go without. It is dirty filthy work. To treat
them like Wal-mart because of standards and how they treat employees I
would have to not walk on sidewalks or drive over bridges.

To hate Wal-Mart is a choice and I get that. To say quality of
products is better then Wal-mart because they are higher priced or
"different" products is not quite right.

Clairol, Revlon, Yuban coffee, Dutchboy paint etc is still the same
product at any of them. The price set is the stores choice. I have
stocked and priced. I also know what these stores pay for the items.

I do believe in not buying products from Countries whose health
standards have proven to be hazardous, but those are in any
store.Label names are deals with the stores such as Martha Stewart
being K-Mart. They run higher to pay Martha and Company.

YET..if you understand warehousing and factories...most items are made
in the same factories and labeled out accordingly.

If people can afford better quality and choose to shop and pay more,
by all means that is an acceptable choice. I just have had sisters who
worked some of the higher class downtown Seattle stores. Nordstroms,
Fredericks, Bon Marche..etc.. horror stories of treatment and hours/
benefits? They are no different. Mom and pop shops offer even less in
benefits. Medical Insurance runs at least 300 a month for employees
and more for dental/vision.

My sisters husbands family owns lumber mills in several states. I was
on the phone discussing with her how they have had to cut benefits to
their employees because of prices or layoff their staff..which by the
way many are lowend pay and part time. Now let us refuse to go into
our houses since mills and construction use the same techniques of low
pay/part time hours to pay lower benefits and machinery that falls off
of sky scrapers because conditions are poor.

Really..it is full circle.
