The Self-Actualizing Astrologer

by Azimech1@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Aug 12, 2007 at 08:10 AM

The following understandings are crucial to positive application in
astrological/psychological counsel and remediation, and can serve
generally as a guide to psychological health, which the self-
actualized (empowered)individual basically is the model of. This is
the most basic and
general of an explanation but can serve as a guide.

Self actualization, is the sign of the integration of astrological
aspects within the horoscope-whether there is knowledge of these
aspects or not. Integration means bringing squares and oppositions
into resolution and fulfillment through the understanding of the
dynamics implied by the law of momentum flow. Integrating those things
believed separate into one coherent
knowingness.

Self-actualization must be defined first;

First-"The general actualizing tendency an "inherent tendency of the
organism to develop all its capacities in ways which serve to maintain
or enhance the organism." (Rogers, 1959, p. 196)

Second-In my posts this is expressed as the purpose of living-to be
all you can be at any given moment."The tendency toward self-
actualization is a person's lifelong process of realizing his or her
potentialities to become a fully functioning person." The expression
of self-fulfillment is the
psychological entity that becomes actualized: "to be that self which
one truly is" (Rogers,1961,p. 166) or in my expression and posts-
following one's bliss, excitement and inspiration with trust.

There are characteristics which the self actualizing individual
exhibits, in a recent survey using the POI (personal orientation
inventory) only 1 in 3000 have the attributes of the true self
actualizing individual.

Prime conditions in perspective are as follows;
1)open to experience.
2)they are time competent, stay focused regardless of judgments and
are non-judgmental.
3)Awareness-the conscious apprehension of experience.
4)live in the now.
5) there is a strong level of self-congruence, meaning that the ideal
self desired and the self actually expressed are congruent. Also
expressed as a state of genuineness in interactions with others.
6) accurate empathy (expressed in my posts as analytical
discernment)i.e. being able to separate the self's beliefs from the
empathic perception or discernment of another's belief system.

Now Maslow's (person centered psychologist) hierarchy of needs are
stated thus, whatever level the individual becomes preoccupied with
determines the quality of the life (expressed in my posts as the
positive -negative charts or philosophical structure);

In order of lesser or less actualized to greater or self actualizing;

physiological needs
safety needs
belongingness and love needs
esteem needs
self-actualization needs

Most individuals function at the levels below esteem, worrying and
focusing on these primary needs associated with "survival" etc.,
obviously more ego focused. It corresponds to the idea I have promoted
of deficiency needs (lower or negative perspective) or growth needs
(higher self
or positive perspective). Much of this is achieved through the idea I
have expressed as self-empowering perspectives.
To help in understanding here are some of the characteristics of the
growth oriented or self actualizing person (the person actively
integrating their chart).
        Clear, efficient perceptions of reality and comfortable
relations with it.
        Acceptance of self others and nature.
        Spontaneity, simplicity, and naturalness.
        Problem centering
        Detachment and need for privacy
        Forceful will and relative independence from the environment
        (self-empowered)
        Continued freshness of appreciation
        Mystic experience, peak experience
        Personal relations with others is characterized by deep but
        relatively few (because they are past the needs of esteem and
        belongingness)
        Ethical discrimination between means and ends
        Philosophical, unhostile, sense of humor
        Creativeness
        Transcendence of any particular culture
Imperfections; Usually seen as-thoughtless, socially impolite, cold,
boring, irritating, stubborn, ruthless, forgetful, humorless, silly,
angered, superficially prideful, naively kind, anxious, guilty, and
conflicted without maladjustment.

SELF actualized person-people who fulfill themselves by making
complete use of their potentialities, capacities and talents, who do
the best they are capable of doing, and who develop themselves to the
most complete stature possible for them. They include persons such
as;
Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt,
Harriet Tubman, Albert Schweitzer, Jane Addams, Fredrick Douglass,
Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa. (Personality
Theories, Bem P. Allen,
1994, pg 253).
