I can't put my finger on quite why I get this impression, but I've lately
been
getting the distinct impression that Pope Benedict is aware of the reality
beneath the religious facade of the Catholic church. I don't really get
an
impression one way or another as to whether he may be a closetted atheist
or
not, but I get the -distinct- impression that he doesn't actually believe
any of
the religious rhetoric he or the church spews. The impression I get is
that he
may actually be trying to prepare the world for an admission by high
office that
Christianity is a myth like any other religious myth on the planet. IOW,
he's
still spewing the rhetoric because the world isn't ready to hear the
truth, but
he's trying to smooth things over with the rest of the world in order that
the
truth may not be as disruptive as it otherwise could be.
Anyone else picking this up? :-?
