I've been corresponding with a Jim Sroud for the last week. He has
asked me to help circulate the message below. It sounds worthwhile to
me. (Exuse me if this has already been posted.)
Bob Imrie, DVM

Dear Dr. Imrie,
Thanks for your organization [the TFVS: Task Force for Veterinary
Science].I believe this is something your organization, and other
skeptical or rationalist organisations may be interested in.
Alternative medicine was taught at my children's public school as
scientific fact. I have now started a petition for the state not to
renew the school's charter until they teach the children science and
release the information that was taught to the students. Once we found
out about this practice, my wife and I sent our daughter to school
with a note excusing her from all Qigong and Alternative Medicine
related activities. Her teacher coerced her into participating "one
last time." During these breathing "exercises" (which the school
claimed was to reduce the children's stress) a classmate of hers fell
unconscious. At that point, the Qigong practitioner ran to the victim,
moved his hands over her and told the class that he was manipulating
her "Chi" to heal her. They also performed religious rituals, in which
they were told that by raising their hands they were pulling energy
from the earth which populated their body organs, then as they lowered
their hands they were returning excessenergy to the Earth. [And this
is just the tip of an enormous and mostly submerged anti-science TCM
iceberg.]

I would hope that each of you [and your rationalist colleagues might]
sign
the petition and then forward the message to other like-minded
skeptics.
Additionally, if any of you would be so kind as to write a letter of
sup****t for us to present to the school boards, that would be
fantastic!
Thanks!
Jim Stroud
