   He's lying. There is no 'tipping point'. Never has been,
   even when CO2/Methane have been many times higher than
   today ... and that makes it a very fair bet that there's
   no 'tipping point' to a fireball earth anywhere in our
   immediate future. Go ahead, double, triple, quadruple
   the CO2 and we'll sweat, but not burn. 

   You'll have to wait a couple of billion years until the
   oceans have pretty much dried up and blown into space.
   THEN you might see some real thermal extremes. Of course
   a couple billon years after that, the sun inflates and
   eats the earth. Als decendent, the AlBoreBot, will surely
   blame that on pandimensional SUVs too ... 

   What GW there is will cause us some headaches. Some
   low-lying cities will have to build back from the sea,
   but they'll have a century or so to accomplish the
   task. A few un-movable cities will simply have to
   be abandoned - so don't buy real-estate in New Orleans,
   Venice, eventually Miami. Rainfall and growing zones
   will slowly drift. Perhaps the corn farmers ought to
   consider a more mobile lifestyle, going to where the
   growing is good and then moving on when things change.
   Consider farmers not so much as the owner of a given
   square of land but agricultural TALENT that goes to
   where the job is. 

   The biggest problems will be in those hyper-hateful
   parts of the world ... africa especially ... where
   large-scale migration may be necessary and the people
   in the next territory or country will respond by 
   pulling out their machetes. The borderline arid
   zone at the southern edge of the sahara is moving
   steadily south - and its in no small part due to
   the primitive agricultural techniques employed
   there. Nobody has figured out how to get the locals
   to change their habits so this situation will
   continue to degnerate. 

   The weather pattern may be changing around India and
   Indonesia as well. Monsoons have been late and weak
   in the past years and that pattern may become the
   new norm. Agricultural practices built around the
   expectation of huge rains at a particular time will
   have to be altered. The kinds of crops grown may
   have to be altered. India might be able to cope,
   but I don't know about Indonesia. 

   In north America we seem to be seeing more and more
   rain in the pacific northwest and southern plains
   while central California and the rocky-mountain 
   states get drier. Parts of west Texas may become
   useful agriculturally while parts of California
   become impossible to farm. Without rain in the
   rocky mountain states, Californa won't have any
   water to siphon from the Colorado river either.
   Maybe CA farmers ought to think about moving
   to TX. There won't be enough water in CA for
   both the people and agriculture at the same time.

   But none of these trends are going to attack full
   strength tomorrow. We'll have plenty of time to
   adapt. 

   Meanwhile, technological fixes WILL become
   availible. There will be more use of 'alternative'
   energy sources, easier ways to make store and
   use hydrogen, there are two or three ways to
   block sunlight and suck more CO2 from the air. 
   Cities will slowly re-model themselves more on
   the european urban geography where jobs, stores,
   recreation and housing are more proximate and
   you don't have to drive 100 miles each day to
   get it all done. 

   It will work out OK, no matter what Al Gore 
   wants you to believe.
