[Michael] Skeptical mysticism

by Katie Dune <KatieDune@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 1, 2007 at 01:20 AM

I channel a familiar soul, Michael. As always, make of his message
what you will.

<begin transmission>

Welcome. We are glad to see gatherings such as this in which
knowledge may be disseminated. There are, however, certain pitfalls
to obtaining knowledge in ways such as this.

In short, the seeker is encouraged to doubt. IOW, be a skeptic - take
no one's word as gospel just because you respect them or they managed
to sound convincing. That applies to our own messages to you as well
as every other communication.

As most thinkers are well aware, most cultural metaphors emerged from
something real-world - usually events interpreted by people in a day
and age when they may not have had the language to adequately describe
them, or the knowledge to adequately understand them. There is one
cultural metaphor which is at the beginning of all this, and that
would be in creation myths such as that of Adam and Eve. There are
other myths which may be used, but we will use Adam and Eve here as
that is the creation myth with which most English-speaking people are
most familiar.

Humanity used to be one with nature. There were very few ways to
distinguish humans from other primates or other animals. Their
intelligence had begun to develop well before their cultural evolution
began to pick up pace.

The unity with nature is symbolized by Adam in the Garden of Eden.
Adam was mankind, not just one man, and mankind in that day and age
communed with elements in nature which modern man has long since
forsaken. The choice was made at one point to eat of the fruit of the
Tree of Knowledge. That tree is language.

The acquisition of language in general, and grammatical language in
particular, thrust humanity into an era of extremely altered
awareness. Most animals to make that transition never reach their own
version of the nuclear age - except of course by intervention of
otherworldly forces. This altered awareness - "knowledge of good and
evil" - it isn't really about "good" and "evil" at all, but about
polar opposites and binary thought patterns. Most animals in nature
perceive the world in a smooth, steady and analog stream. They don't
think in terms of objects or clusters of objects, but rather simply in
terms of experience, perception and response. That's not to say they
lack self-awareness or that they are somehow "inferior" to humanity -
that is far from the truth. They are simply different. For most
higher-order animals, their awareness of the world and of their
individual selves is every bit as keen and sharp as that of any human,
they just have different neurological pathways for processing the
things they perceive. That is the only difference.

In any event, the line about "In the beginning was the word and the
word was with god and the word was good" - that has a meaning you're
likely to find surprisingly literal. In spite of what so many think
it means, it means little more than what it says - "the word" is not
"The Word(TM)" as in the Bible - "the word" is literally language,
itself. Those who wove the foundations for this reality's existence
had language, that is how realities are created.

But using language to create new realities - that is a subject for
another time. Back to the subject at hand!

Now that humanity has almost completely mastered language, it is time
for humanity to begin maturing. "The word" divides you, and that
should not be. You are encouraged to use language to unite yourselves
and to quench your carnal urges. In order to do this most
effectively, a sort of "skeptical mysticism" is necessary.

Essentially, the task for humanity at this juncture is to learn how to
perceive the world as an open-ended possibility while using the tools
of logic and reason to analyze and understand their perceptions. That
is what is meant by "skeptical mysticism". You need not treat your
most subtle, chaotic mind-wanderings as absolute truth, but -do- pay
attention to them, and consider the possibility that there may be a
logical, rational reason that you are experiencing them. It may not
even be "because it's true", it may simply be that for the purposes of
another aspect of your psyche, you must believe or think in a certain
way for a certain amount of time in order to accomplish a goal.

Beliefs are treated that way on the level in which most non corporeal
beings operate - they are malleable, as is reality prior to the
attainment of a mass consensus. The world as you know it both is and
is not as you perceive it to be - skeptical mysticism helps one to
make sense of this and to understand both facets ("is" and "is not"),
while protecting one from falling into any metaphysical quagmires or
falling victim to con artists at least to a certain degree.

Believe your senses while simultaneously doubting them. That is how
reality is constructed and that is how reality is maintained. If you
can perceive an issue from two fundamentally opposite points of view,
you can perceive the true nature of that facet of the universe and in
some cases, this enables you to use that facet of the universe much
more effectively.

Ultimately, as has been repeated for eons, the gist of the message is
"balance". Broaden your range of perceptions and thought patterns,
expand into new vistas of either intellectual or physical potential -
the world is there for you to make, and since you have no choice in
the matter other than suicide, you might just as well get all out of
your perceptions that you possibly can.

We will discuss a philosophy to assist in attaining this level of
diversity experience in a future broadcast. For now, we must go, the
vessel is growing tired. Thanks for tuning in.

<end transmission>

Awww, how considerate of them. ;-) Thanks, guys. :-)
