Moreover, if being poly doesn't affect one's manner of living in
particular ways, it's not going to result in having more people involved
in the child-rearing.
There's still the "it's not a 'style'" objection to the word in play,
but the fact that this _is_ talking about a specific manner of living
(without assuming that it's applicable to all polyfolk) does mean that
one of the big objections to its use doesn't apply.
