I've had my follow-up appointment with the surgeon who removed my
gallbladder. He took a look at me, assured me I am not at all
jaundiced (a possibility I hadn't even thought of), took off the
little bandages and looked at the incisions, and cleared me to return
to all normal activities. Therefore, I will be going back to work
tomorrow.
To celebrate, I took the subway to Chinatown and had a bowl of pho
for lunch; walked a bit more; and then came home and did some chores
I'd been putting off while I was dealing with instructions including
"no heavy lifting."
I have had cheerful conversations with two of my partners (one by
phone and one by IM) and sent email to the third.
The surgeon also told me that mine had been in "the top 5%
ugliest gall bladders" and that doing it laparoscopically had been
difficult, and they came "this close" to having to do the old-style
large incision. I am very glad they took the time and made it
work this way.
If anyone happens to need a gall bladder surgeon in the New
York area, I can highly recommend Dr. Peter Geller, who is
affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, in Manhattan.
