I'm working from old memory here, but I think it was possible to get a
direct train from London or Cardiff to the relevant rail station; I
think you'd need to make a transfer by train for anywhere else. 
If you're flying into London, Heathrow is on the Tube, as are all
the main rail terminals; I'm fairly sure there's rail, but not Tube,
to Gatwick and Stansted, but I've only flown into/out of London
and Cardiff. [From the Cardiff air****t in 2001, you had to take about
a 1/2 hour bus ride to get to the rail station.]

I don't remember the prices; I think we got a reasonable deal, by
booking moderately far in advance. (Not a round trip; I did London-
[whichever station it is for Hay] and then Swansea-London, and
Andy did the London-[the station for Hay] and then friends drove
him to Heathrow on their way home to Kent.

Also, I don't know what sort of bus service there is.
