express buses from Newnan to Atlanta will begin rolling on Monday,
Nov. 29.
And the buses won't be stopping at Hartsfield-Jackson International
Air****t after all. Instead, they will go to the Five Points MARTA Station,
and then to West Peachtree Street at Ralph McGill Boulevard, back to Five
Points, and then on to the park-and-ride lot at Newnan.
Commission Chairman Vernon "Mutt" Hunter said he was very proud of the bus
project. The movie theater will put up increased lighting for the lot, and
the park-and-ride lot is a joint effort between Consolidated Theaters and
developer Stan Thomas. "The theater's going to help market it. They're
going to give some free movie passes to some of the regular riders,"
Hunter said. "Quite frankly, it looks good to me."
Representatives from the Georgia Regional Trans****tation Authority, which
will be operating the five buses assigned to Coweta, said they feel like
the buses are going to fill up, Gay said.
Make sure, said Schlumper, to tell folks they can't catch a bus after 7:45
p.m Buses will leave Newnan at 5:45 a.m., 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, and 7:45. They
will leave Five Points at 4 p.m., 4:30, 5, 5:30, and 6:10. The bus will
leave West Peachtree 10 minutes earlier, and are scheduled to arrive in
Newnan 50 minutes after leaving Five Points.>>
---{yeah, and screw us overnighters. I've written to see what response I
get. CNN and Turner, and Turner South and Superstation TBS don't run all
night without peoples, and there's plenty o' peoples out in then thar
counties that drive to Atlanta every evening. Plus, Turner has HUGE
environmental concerns and investment in MARTA what with giving free
passes every month. I hope it has the slightest impact.}
<<"I do want people to know this is trans****tation for commuters, not the
traveling public," Schlumper. "I don't want to give the impression to
anybody that this is a way to go to Atlanta to go shopping."
But it may come to that eventually, said Commissioner Robert Wood. >>
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<"I just hope those drug dealers and robbers aren't going to come down
here to sell drugs," said Wood. Not to worry, he said. They won't bother
with the buses. If the drug dealers come to Newnan, they'll journey in
their Cadillacs.>>
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<<"A lot of us old people are getting too old to drive," Hunter said. With
the buses, "we can go to Atlanta just like we're big shots.">>
if drug dealers and theives
<does he mean black?>
are grabbing the bus to pillage their neighborhoods, why do the old people
want to be like them? Drug dealers are big shots? Don't they think most
druggies have NICE durn cars and stay off the bus? please.
<<He said he feels that GRTA is "trying to do everything in their power to
make Coweta County happy."
"They appear to be," Gay said. "They want it to be a positive thing."
"I think they want us to be an example," said Hunter.
"Oh, I'm sure of that," said Commissioner Greg Tarbutton.>>
